  • Kathina Civara Dana, Offering of robes to monks.
    Hyderabad 16th October 2016

Kathina Chivara Dana is a ceremony that takes place during the months of October/November in all Viharas. For 2600 years Buddhist families have gathered to take part in this ceremony which involves alms-giving and giving of other requisites to the Bhikkhu Sangha. Friends, families, parents and children, all join together in a celebration of generosity and harmony.
Kathina occurs at the end of the Vassavasa (three-month long rains retreat) of monks. During this retreat, the resident monks of the monastery practice the Dhamma intensely and are obliged by their Vinaya or Discipline not to travel unless absolutely necessary.
